OFFICIAL RELEASE: CODEPINK declares Obama win a victory for the peace movement
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Like the rest of the world, CODEPINK is emboldened by Sen. Barack Obama’s victory in a historic presidential election.
The victory came through the hard work of millions within the progressive peace and justice movement within the past six years, bolstered by a values shift among the majority of Americans and their growing demand and faith in change — including an end to war. It is a victory for the movement and inspiration for further change!
“Americans have stood up to say they know the cost of war in lives, dignity and money,” said Jodie Evans, CODEPINK cofounder. “Being against war is the winning decision. They are ready for change. War is so over.”
This victory will make it much harder for politicians to submit to the greed of Wall Street and the war machine, bending their own morals, by supporting war — as they have for the past six years.
But CODEPINK’s work is not nearly over. CODEPINK members will be in the halls of Congress and in city halls nationwide, using playful, disarming methods to remind politicians of the change their constituents demand and shine a pink light on any absurdities and abuses of power. They will urge them to end the occupation of Iraq and provide reparations for its people, to refuse to send troops to another losing war in Afghanistan, to create a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Iran, to restore our civil liberties and protect our environment, to bail out homeowners in foreclosure because of predatory lenders, and to create a NEW New Deal for America: jobs, housing, universal health care, education, roads and public transportation.
“We can’t stop now,” said Medea Benjamin, CODEPINK cofounder. “An Obama administration will need our help to live up to its promises.”

I sure hope that you are ready to defend yourselves when “An Obama administration will need our help to live up to its promises.”
Now think of what the world will be like: guns taken away from citizens, a Military that is cut 30 per cent, some kind of wishy-washy group of people who are Obama’s equivalent to the military, and out of money after giving $750 billion to the UN to disperse to “poor” countries. Sounds rosy, or shall I say, Pink?

Hey Dale,
Interesting deduction (re aid to impoverished countries and gun control equaling communism) and I have not heard or read anything supporting the points you make here. If you have any links to reliable news sources feel free to continue this comment thread.
Check out this link to Media Matters (media watch dog)- maybe these are some of the items you are referring to? http://mediamatters.org/items/200810230006
Thanks!

How quickly do you hope to achieve the goals of Code Pink? Will you protest if President Elect Obama negotiates a withdrawal from Iraq, only to send troops to Afghanistan? Will you likewise protest congress if they do not provide mortgage relief for individuals? How quickly or expeditiously will you expect these items to be accomplished? Thank you

17,000 more troops called to Afghanistan today.
$3 billion in military aid promised to Israel.
Again, the refusals to release Gitmo detainees under the guise of protectionism.
When will we raise the ruckus again?
The peace movement has no party. It is not Republican nor is it Democratic.
It must be above parties, willing to respond wherever killing in the name of __________ is being carried out.
President Obama is not a peace activist; he never claimed to be along the campaign trail. HE was never the hope we needed. WE are the hope.

“Codepink declares Obama win a victory for the peace movement”
What a joke on Codepink. An increase of 17 thousand American
men and women have been sent to Afghanistan by President Obama. And now he wants to deny injured Veterans promised healthcare. It’s time you hold Obama accountable for his lies to get elected.
At least Bush made sure our injured Vets were treated with
dignity and healthcare coverage!!! I will never support Codepink
again as long as Obama is in office!!!!!!

Wow Code Pink is as blind as the rest of the population that voted for a MAN with ZERO experience. Bravo! Don’t complain to me, you get what you paid for.

One year after the election, lets take a tally.
Number of campaign promises upheld by Obama = 0
Number of wars ended = 0
Remember, increasing the size of government, WILL NOT create prosperity for the American public.
Government never creates, only consumes.
