It seems that you have truly had a wonderful experience. My hope is that Obama can start a new dialogue with the Iranians that can lead to a fruitful peace process. If is is true that our dialogues with Iran have iatrogenically lead to an impasse and that Achmedinagad's rants are the result of deeply flawed miscommunications between he and the West, then maybe peace will be possible. I hope so.

A powerfully moving account which I read hungrily and will return to read again. As a poet, I am most touched by the devotion to poetry in all forms. What would Iranians think of Howl by Allen Ginsburg, of Mountains and Rivers without End by Gary Snyder, of Loose Sugar by my friend and sister pinker Brenda Hillman (and many more), I wonder. As a Western individualist, I am a bit chilled by the communalism, the "never-aloneness" you describe. As a human being I am impressed and sometimes thrilled by the dramatic land you have put into vivid word pictures, and into photos. Like a long and multi-layered fable, the story of this journey will continue to be told, reflected on and felt my many -- both in the US and in Iran.
