Protesting Military RecruitingMay 23, 2012
Mary DeCamp's report back:
This morning I joined a growing band of counter-protestors who stand every Wednesday morning in front of the military recruiting center at 2302 E. Speedway Blvd.
There is a loyal band of about a dozen self-identified "Christian patriots" who show up with oversized American flags and signs with slogans like "Guantanamo Rocks!" and "Al-Quaida Loves Lefties" and "We Support the Troops." They cover a portion of the sidewalk with the United Nations flag so people can trample on it.
Alongside them at this morning's rally were about an equal number of Vets for Peace and Code Pinkers and Occupiers. In the peaceful contingent were 2 local candidates - Betts Putnam-Hidalgo running for Tucson Unified School Board and Dave Croteau running for Pima County Sheriff.
I brought the Code Pink Peace Heart and we displayed a couple of the Peace Ribbon panels.
